Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Programme

Journey To Japan

Our Partnership

Growing grass roots ambition.

We are incredibly proud of our rugby partnerships whether it’s the elite levels of England, Scotland, Gloucester Rugby or your local community club – through these partnerships we have developed and introduced a range of initiatives to support and grow the game.

In conjunction with England Rugby, the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme focuses on rewarding the community game volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes of your local clubs. You can find out more about our work here

A special year for rugby

As a company we know how important it is to value others and as all eyes turned to Japan - our manufacturing home - in the autumn, we felt it was important to mark the occasion with something very special and meaningful to reward the game’s selfless volunteers.

We created our own rugby knowledge exchange programme - Journey to Japan - for grassroots volunteers to visit their Japanese counterparts. We invited volunteers to tell us about the work they’ve been doing and how a trip to meet volunteers from the community game in Japan could help them achieve their ambitions for the next 12-18 months.

Three finalists were invited to join us at our head offices in Cirencester for the final selection process. They were asked to make their ‘pitch’ to representatives from the RFU, our Managing Director and ex England player Brian Moore, but what they didn’t know was we had a huge surprise in store. Not one, but all three of the finalists would be flown to Japan to take part in the amazing knowledge exchange programme. Watch what happened when we broke the good news to them:

Driving their own ambitions

Each volunteer had their own ambition for this wonderful experience - from developing the women’s game to growing the sport in inner cities and making rugby an inclusive activity for all. We’ll return to our volunteers in the summer of 2020 to bring you a special up-date on how their time in Japan has helped shape and contributed to each of their projects.
