4x4 Ownership

Why choose a 4x4?

Choosing a 4x4 gives you some significant benefits without much in the way of downsides. Our 4x4s are renowned for being tough and dependable vehicles in all conditions, so here are just a few reasons you might want to choose a 4x4.

Because 4x4s offer better stability and grip on the road, your day to day driving is safer, and your better equipped to handle bad weather like heavy rain or icy surfaces than you would be with a two wheel drive car.

Safer in all conditions

Tackle the worst of the UK’s weather

We like to joke that the downside to owning a 4x4 is that there is no such thing as a snow day, but there’s a serious point behind that. Modern 4x4s are built to tackle difficult conditions like muddy fields and rocky hills, but the same technology makes them incredibly effective when it comes driving on roads in adverse weather.

Heavy Rain

Stable and solid in wet weather

In heavy rain, or when there is lots of standing water on the road, 4x4 cars are better able to handle the reduced traction, with all four wheels dynamically adjusting brake force to provide the most stability possible.

Ice and snow

Better grip on slippery surfaces

From hill starts to country corners, all aspects of driving are more dangerous when the temperature drops. A modern 4x4 monitors traction in real time, intelligently distributing power and brake force to each wheel to maximise grip.

4x4 systems

A 4x4 mode for every situation

4x4s typically provide different settings for different conditions. Mitsubishi models employ some of the best 4x4 systems available.

High Driving Position

A commanding view

4x4s typically sit higher than normal cars, giving you a clearer view of the road ahead.

Safety Features

You're safer in a 4x4

To tackle off-road conditions, 4x4s needs to have enhanced systems for handling uneven and slippery terrain and these technologies translate to a safer driving experience on and off the road.

Active Stability Control

Keeping you in control

Active Stability Control (ASC) helps you maintain control. When the system detects a loss in grip, it applies braking force to one or more of the wheels while it automatically adjusts engine output to regain grip.

Hill Descent Control

Keep in control on steep slopes

Negotiating steep uneven ground? That’s where Hill Descent Control is a huge help. Hill Descent Control will automatically apply the brakes to maintain your current speed, so you can focus your attention on steering.

Hill Start Assist

Never roll backwards

Starting your 4x4 on a steep slope? Hill Start Assist makes it easy by keeping the brake on for up to two seconds, until you press the accelerator. You never need to worry about rolling back again.

Off-road mode

Conquer all terrain

Improve traction when driving off road by choosing the GRAVEL, MUD/SNOW, SAND or ROCK* setting. Just press the OFF ROAD MODE selector until the appropriate mode appears in the multi-information display. The engines output, transmission settings and braking adjust accordingly to optimise performance.

* The ROCK setting is only available in the 4LLc setting.

**OFF ROAD MODE is only available in the 4HLc and 4LLc setting.

Towing with a 4x4

A towing enthusiast’s best friend

Towing opens up a whole new world of possibility, where you use it for business or pleasure. 4x4s are extremely good at towing due to them being able to send power to all 4 wheels giving greater stability. All our Mitsubishi 4x4s have great towing ability, and L200 and Shogun Sport have Trailer Stability Assist to automatically reduce lateral motion (sway).

Servicing your 4x4

Keep your 4x4 fit and healthy

Servicing a 4x4 is exactly the same as any other vehicle. You can find all of the service information about your 4x4 in your owner’s manual. Your local Mitsubishi dealer has expert technicians, trained to know everything about Mitsubishi 4x4 models, so whether you need to book a service or want to arrange a vehicle health check, you’ll get top quality care at dealerships across the UK.
